Barbie vs Oppenheimer box office collection Day 9: Nolan outshines Greta's film

By Anindita Mukherjee: Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ released on July 21, clashing at the box office. Despite having different target audiences, these two films are consistently competing against each other. On the ninth day, 'Oppenheimer' gained the upper hand over 'Barbie' in terms of box office performance.

It's a battle between ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’ at the box office! Both movies released on July 21 and dominated the global box office. As we reach the ninth day, the box office collections indicate that 'Oppenheimer', directed by Christopher Nolan, has managed to attract more audiences with its consistent performance. According to a Sacnilk report, the film earned Rs 7.25 crore on Day 9, with an overall occupancy of 59.46 per cent. The total collection of the film in India now stands at Rs 84.80 crore.

On the other hand, 'Barbie' raked in Rs 3.05 crore on Day 8, totalling the collection in India to Rs 32.10 crore. The film had an overall occupancy of 57.80 per cent on July 29. This clearly proves that 'Oppenheimer' has emerged winner in the battle, as of yet.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are seen in lead roles as Barbie and Ken now. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film dropped in theatres on July 21. The movie follows Barbie, as she discovers the joys and perils of living in a human world.

The film has a gigantic ensemble cast that also features America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, Dua Lipa, and Helen Mirren.

In Christopher Nolan film 'Oppenheimer’, Irish actor Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) stars as ‘the father of the atomic bomb’, Robert J Oppenheimer. The cast of the film includes Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s wife, biologist Kitty Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as Manhattan Project director Lt Leslie Groves Jr, Florence Pugh as Oppenheimer’s ex-fiancee, psychiatrist and physician Jean Tatlock, and Robert Downey Jr as Lewis Strauss, the former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.

For those unaware, ‘Oppenheimer’ is inspired by the 2005 biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer, written by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin. ‘Oppenheimer’ also stars Rami Malek, Gary Oldman, Dane DeHaan, Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh, Matthew Modine, Casey Affleck, Alden Ehrenreich and Jason Clarke.
